Before we get started, take a look at the image we’ll be created. Click here to view the actual size.
Making Wood Texture
First we will create a wooden texture with large size. We start by creating a new photoshop document the size width 6000px and height 6000px with resolution 300ppi, use a transparent background.
Change foreground color to dark brown #48403a and soft brown #ac9f92 as background. With the Paint Bucket Tool fill the background document with your foreground color #48403a, then in the menu bar select Filter > Render > fibers. Set the value of Variance 12.0 and Strength 34.0.
will we get the following picture
Now we will make the texture becomes darker. Create a new layer by clicking Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map. Change the new layer Blending Mode to Overlay and Opacity to 50%.
The final step, create a new solid color layer, go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color. Select color #633a1c then set Blending Mode to Multiply. Will we get the wood texture as follows. You can download my wooden texture here.
Creating Beautiful Typography with Indonesian Batik Motifs
Create a new photoshop document 1920 by 1200 pixels with a resolution of 300 ppi. Open the wooden texture picture, press Ctrl + A to select and then Copy and paste the new document which we have created. Use the Horizontal Type Tool, type BATIK. Here I use the font bastarda-K.
Put pictures of Indonesian batik as a layer behind the BATIK text layer and name it with ‘motif batik’. Duplicate ‘motif batik’ layer into 4 layers. Press Ctrl + T to resize the layer and arrange them as follows.
Merge all ‘motif batik’ layers into one layer. Then move the ‘motif batik’ position above the BATIK layer.
Load selection by pressing Ctrl and click on BATIK text layer. Now go to Select > Modify > Contract and set 2px as contract value.
After that select Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection an we’ll get the following picture.
Double click on BATIK layer to bring up Layer Style window. Select Color Overlay with color # 9d5131 and add Bevel and Emboss set as shown below.
Add a new layer below the BATIK we call this layer with the name ‘border’. Make another selection as we did in Step 3, but this time choose Select > Modify > Expand, expand by 10 px. With the Paint Bucket Tool fill selected area with white #FFFFFF.
Add Bevel and Emboss and Inner Glow to ‘border’ layer and set as screenshot below. Change the Blending Mode to Soft Light.
Give additional text using the same effect, as I’ve done here. In order to make it more diverse in ‘Indonesian Art’ text I use the other batik motifs. And here are the results of the final image that we created. Don’t forget subscribe to Grafisia RSS feed.
