Create Black Briefcase Icon in Photoshop
Photoshop | July 27th, 2010In today’s Photoshop tutorial, we will create an cool black briefcase icon from scratch using simple shapes and layer styles. Let’s get started!
Step 1
Create a new document with size of 1280 x 1024 pixels at a resolution of 300ppi, select white as the background color. Actually a good background for an icon is Transparent, but in this tutorial i use the white color just to make it easier, whereas after the icon is complete, you can disable this white background and save it in PNG.
First we create the base, use the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 45px, make a shape as shown in the following figure.
Step 2
Now on the menu select Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color, when a dialog box click OK, the next will appear Color Picker window, select black # 000000 and click OK.
Step 3
In the layers palette, click the double-layer Solid Color 1 to display the Layer Style window. As our basic colors create smooth gradient from dark gray to a little light. Check the Gradient Overlay layer style and set it as follows. Do not press OK because we’ll move on to step 4.
Step 4
Now give Stroke on a Solid Color 1 layer, set it as the picture below. Press OK when done.
Up here we get a picture as follows.
Step 5
Create another shape using Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) radius 45px. Make sure the top line, right and left cheek by jowl with the line on a shape. So shape 2 has a width equal to shape 1 with a height less than half. Use the Add Anchor Point Tool, add a new anchor point at the center of the bottom line second shape, then drag the anchor point slightly downward to obtain a curved line.
Step 6
Back as we did in Step 2, choose Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color on the menu, when a dialog box click OK, the next will appear Color Picker window, select the color # 353535 and click OK.
Step 7
Double-click the Solid Color 2 layer to display the Layer Style window. First we use the Drop Shadow, select it and set it as follows.
Step 8
The next Layer Style is Gradient Overlay.
Step 9
Next add the Stroke to Color Fill 2 layer. Set the following and press OK.
After completing the nine steps we obtain the following results.
Step 10
Create new shape using the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 10px. Select Layer > New fill layer > Solid Color, select color # abacb0 on the Color Picker.
Step 11
We need to give some Layer Style on the Color Fill 3 layer. Here is a screenshot that may help you give a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel and Emboss and Gradient Overlay layer.
Up here we get the following picture.
Step 12
Create a new shape again, and as before, use shapes to make the Color Fill layer, but the colors that we use in this step is the # 6e6e6e. With the same width with which we created in step 10 while the height is half.
Step 13
As we did in the Color Fill 3 Layer, we need to give some Layer Style on the Color Fill 4 Layer. Here is a screenshot that may help you give a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel and Emboss and Gradient Overlay layer.
Up here we get the following picture.
Step 14
Add a new shape and fill with color #383838. Put this new Color Fill layer under all layers.
Step 15
Give Color Overlay Layer Style on the Color Fill 5 layer. Set as follows.
Duplicate Layer and Color Fill 5 and shift one of the two leftist, try to make the position of the two symmetries, we will get the following picture.
Step 16
Create a new shape again, this time fill it with black # 000000. Place the Color Fill 6 layer under all the existing layers.
Step 17
Click Color Fill 6 layer two times to display the Layer Style window, add a Layer Style as follows.
Duplicate Layer and Color Fill 6 and shift one of the two leftist, try to make the position of the two symmetries, we will get the following picture.
Step 18
Now we make the handle, do as the steps we have already passed before, first make a new shape and then filled with black # 000000, put the position of Color Fill 7 layer above all layers.
Step 19
As before also, double click on the Color Fill 7 layer to display the Layer Style.
arrive at this step we obtain the following picture.
Step 20
Create new Color Fill layer again but this time fill it with #151515.
Step 21
Adding the Layer Styles,
and we get this image,
Final Result
